I just came across an article dealing with educational reform in India that puts some things into perspective. The author was pointing out that while the Indian students scored the top grades on exams, there was no innovation and decried the few Nobel prize winners from India. In the US there is concern for the low test scores our students have worldwide. They scored average. Do we want our students to be only average? Maybe!!! A standardized test score is a prediction on how a student will perform. You are trying to predict complex performance with an hour test. The test is limited to a rough screening device. To make finer distinctions look at how the student performs on projects, essays, interviews. Back in the dark ages of the 20th Century it used to be called authentic assessment. Extra Credit: What is the record of the US Nobel winners across the centuries?

Greetings Everyone,
I've been away for a spell, I hope to be coming in more often. I've missed being here with you, my dear friends. I will be posting some photos of some of my Art work when I get the photos downloaded. It's only a few, but it's worth posting. I wouldn't mind knowing your thoughts on this subject. I'm still writing poetry as well...I hope to share more of this with you too. Take care and I hope to hear from you soon. God bless! writerlover |
